Buildings: Teaching Block: This property we rent at present for our Training Centre which has three floors - the ground floor is the teaching area and offices, the upper floors are a flats for the Staff. The service is going very well,but the whole organization is in jeopardy, as the two buildings, (office, teaching rooms and students home) are only rented, and at the end of our 3 year agreements, the landlords have informed us they want to sell their properties. They have offered us first refusal and I am launching an appeal in the UK to complement the appeal in India so that together the service can continue.

Buildings: Student Home: This property we also rent at present, which has three floors - the ground floor, is the home for the 6 Young Men - the first flour, is where the House Parents live and the kitchen and dinning Area for them all. - the second floor, is the home for the 6 Young Ladies.

Brailling 4 Perkins Braille-typing machines are being used. These are expensive but necessary items of equipment.
Embosser We also have a Braille Embosser, which translates normal print text files into Braille via a computer. Whole books, specific studies and information notes can be duplicated for Braille readers by this method.
Braille teaching books We have a number of sets of the ‘Firsthand’ and ‘Fingerprint’ Braille Instruction Books to teach English Braille progressing from simple open Braille to advanced Grade II Braille.
Casettes and audio casettes Cassette players and audio cassettes are used continuously.
Library We are building up a Braille library of various books to develop advanced reading skills.
Computing Desktop and laptop computers play a very large part in Bartimaeus’ instruction. At the moment we have 6 desktops and 9 laptops, which are fully utilised all day and most evenings. More are needed.
Extras To introduce and develop specific skills for our students we have a wide range of equipment and apparatus, including tactile learning materials, games, talking books and white canes.
